  • How many counselling sessions will I need?
I offer both short and long term therapy. The amount of sessions needed depends on individual needs. Some clients may only need 6 sessions, whilst others may benefit from longer term support. As a client, you decide when you start therapy and you also decide when you end it.
  • How long is each session?
Sessions are 50 minutes long and are usually on the same day and time each week.
  • Is our work confidential?
I am a member of the NCPS (National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society) and therefore work according to their professional codes of conduct regarding confidentiality and ethical practice. What is discussed remains confidential and the only time I will breach confidentiality is if you tell me something that suggests you or others are at serious risk of harm.
  • What happens if I miss or cancel an appointment?
Sessions can be cancelled up to 24 hours before without charge. Cancellations within 24 hours of the agreed time will be charged a £20.00 cancellation fee. Non attendance at the agreed time will be charged the late cancellation fee of £20.00 and must be paid before the beginning of the next session.
  • What happens during a counselling session?
We will work with whatever you choose to bring to your session. You may choose to talk about something related to your previous session, something that happened during the week, or any thoughts that came up for you when reflecting on past experiences. I sometimes suggest to clients that it may be useful to keep a thoughts/feelings journal whilst accessing counselling. This not only helps you to understand your thoughts more clearly but can also be useful to bring along to your counselling session for us to explore and process together. I will listen throughout the session and help you understand on a deeper level why you feel the way you do. I will ask you questions and we may work on coping strategies but it's important to remember that it's up to you to decide what you want to talk about.
